1.) What exactly is it that you do in the Adult Industry?
What company do you currently work for? What's your job title
or duties?
Currently, I run an adult DVD rental company based in Newark, New Jersey, called FlickCentral.com. I take a very hands-on approach to my business and have experienced every role from order fulfillment to customer service to coding, design and marketing. Right now I have help with order fulfillment and a new coder has come on board to help me with site development.
2.) When did you actually get started in the industry?
About two years ago, a friend and I had a brainstorming session about what it would take to become extremely well-to-do with minimal starting capital. A few months later, VideoTakeout.com, our first DVD rental site, was born.
3.) If you could change one thing about the Adult Industry
what would it be and why?
There are so many things that could be changed about our industry, but probably more things that I'd like to remain the same. The one thing I like most about the industry is the entrepreneurial spirit that exists within everyone involved, and the camaraderie between people of all levels because of this common bond. Perhaps the one thing I would change first, would be the misconception that the adult industry is a get-rich-quick scheme. I've come a long way in the past couple of years, and I still have a long way to go as I learn this business. It has a lot of potential and I'm happy to help people, but there are way too many dreamers and not enough doers that try to get into the adult marketplace. It can be frustrating to teach a newbie the ropes, only to have them drop out of the business in a few months because of the realization that it requires real work to become successful. Kudos to those who remain after this brief burn-in period - they are the ones with the enterprising individuals who make this industry what it is.
4.) What advice would you offer to anyone that's just
starting out in the industry?
Research, research, research. Before you spend any time developing a site, and well before you spend any money, do your homework. Hang out on boards like RatedHot.com and get a feel for the industry. As questions, but more importantly, research old posts to find information on subjects you may not be aware of. Find a solution that explores your strengths, and find a way around your weaknesses. If you have strong technical skills but aren't a class-A designer, find someone who is and get them involved. Not everyone is or can be a designer, or a coder, or a Webmaster. Find what you're good at and work with what you've got. Check out the competition and see if you can find a way to compete, such as exploring a niche market. Use tools like Google, Yahoo, and Overture's free keywords tool, and compile data. Build spreadsheets, graphs, whatever it takes - weigh both the pros and the cons of launching a project, and then make a decision. Keep an open mind - don't assume that all traffic comes from trades or search engines or affiliates - build a model that doesn't rely on just one traffic or revenue stream.
5.) Tell us about any sites you might operate or that
you're most proud of.
www.flickcentral.com is our newly branded DVD rental site. We launched during Cybernet and we'll be rolling out upgrades over the next month or so. With the new site, we've finally opened up our affiliate program and are in the process of building a multi-site affiliate network under the name www.CashWings.com , which will soon be opened up to other merchants for inclusion of their programs. Other sites include our link-swapping site, www.adult-directory.biz and an experimental TGP, www.free-adult-directory.com . We also have a few mainstream sites we're working on, such as www.delicategem.com and a few design sites.

What are your hobbies?
I spend most of my free time working on my online business ventures, but I try to put a few hours in at the gym and local nightlife here and there. With the good weather here, I'll do some rollerblading and other outdoor activities. In the winter I'll go snowboarding once or twice.
7.) Are you married? Have a girlfriend or boyfriend? Or
both? *giggle*
Um, I took my laptop to dinner the other night; it was a great date. Other than that I haven't had the time for anything and it probably wouldn't be fair to the other party as I'm pretty engrossed in my biz. Maybe in a few years I'll find a nice girl who likes smut peddlers to spend my quality time with.
8.) How much time would you say you spend working in a
day and do you take regular vacations?
12-16 hours per day during the week, 8 hours per day on the weekends, vacations consist of trade shows.
9.) Is there anything personal or professional that you
would like to add or that you would like others to know about
you?
I love running my own biz!
