1.) What exactly is it that you do in the Adult Industry?
What company do you currently work for? What's your job title
or duties?
I
primarily specialize in search engine and Internet marketing
and have worked full time with several adult and mainstream
related companies over the years. Since June of 2003 I have
been employed with PSW
Billing Solutions as VP of Marketing where I concentrate
on the marketing of our services, client support, and maintaining
all around relationships within and outside of the Adult Industry.
2.) When did you actually get started in the industry?
I started out in early 1998 after completing a degree
program and leaving college. My first internet job was actually
doing customer service for an adult billing company, and after
a few months I moved into marketing and never looked back.
3.) If you could change one thing about the Adult Industry
what would it be and why?
I'd have to say the bad press. An industry outsider
does not see that the adult internet is run by real people,
paying real bills, there are some who want to work from home
to spend more time with their family, some are disabled, some
who go into a full time corporate office not different than
any other, where others simply run sites as a way to earn extra
money and learn new skills.
This
industry is comprised of survivors, brilliant minds in business
and technology, which helped to pioneer the birth of the Internet
as a way to communicate, entertain, and bring the world into
our homes. You accept the good with the bad for the better of
the whole. Most in the adult industry are legal, ethical, and
family people, so if the industry fails most will migrate into
or back into the mainstream. However, the end user as well as
the government and right wing groups throw every negative inconotation
at the adult industry. They try to gain a political advantage
by fighting to keep "kids away from porn" yet they
fail to be informed enough to really help the industry find
a solution to resolve the argument. The Adult Industry is a
scapegoat for most politicians looking to "fight for the
greater good". The reality is, families are getting fed,
new jobs are being formed, and the industry itself is starting
to regulate out of the "dirt" and more into doing
good, "clean" business. It's true, if we don't regulate
ourselves, someone will do it for us. The evidence is all around
us.
4.) What advice would you offer to anyone that's just
starting out in the industry?
Realize the with the level of competition that adult
site marketing is not really all that different from mainstream
marketing, in fact, it's much tougher. Having basic skills such
as knowing HTML, design, basic scripting, copy writing, and
business management can go a long way and save you overhead
and setup costs. Consider starting out with a free site and
earn by promoting sponsors and learn how to drive traffic before
considering opening up a paysite. Starting out with a free site
can help you learn the business before you invest too much and
can even help you earn for startup costs of future projects.
5.) Tell us about any sites you might operate or that
you're most proud of.
I work with and contribute to several sites in addition
to PSWBilling.com. BDSMWorld.com, webmastered by Lisa Marie,
is a new fetish based community portal that features free content
for surfers and a categorized link directory. FetishXToys.com
has been a pet project of mine which features several co-branded
stores each with their own niche of specialty items. That site
has barely any overhead or start up costs and has been driving
sales like crazy! I love it! Working with FetishClub.com and
partner program HotGold are doing really well, FetishClub is
one of the oldest fetish megasites and converts great so it's
a lot of fun to work with. However the brand, the feel, the
top notch services at PSWBilling.com makes it my pride and joy.
I love the team that I work with at PSW, working with such talented
and multifaceted people is very satisfying.
6.)
What are your hobbies?
When I have time away from the computer I love to go fishing,
salt or freshwater. Kicking my man's ass in bowling is always
fun too, hehe. I enjoy playing pool, throwing darts, watching
movies, hangin with friends, going down to the keys for a weekend
here and there
but mostly just getting away from my machine
is a hobby in itself.
7.) Are you married? Have a girlfriend or boyfriend? Or
both? *giggle*
I'll be married on November 29, 2003 to the most wonderful
guy (and most talented designer) on the planet :)
8.) How much time would you say you spend working in a
day and do you take regular vacations?
I work between 8-12 hours per day, relatively normal
business hours. I may take one or two 2-3 day vacation per year
to some place local, besides the webmaster shows.
9.) Is there anything personal or professional that you
would like to add or that you would like others to know about
you?
I've written about 70 adult industry articles, mostly focused
around marketing, that are linked from my article archive HERE.
Although I have written about 14 articles for Klixxx magazine
over the years, my very first Feature Article is in the October
2003 issue! Woohoo!
10.) What's the one thing you like best about Rated Hot?
I love how the site is growing! The new features such
as this one "Rated Hotties", "Site of the week"
and the boards organizer are excellent. The people who visit
the message board are fun and friendly to talk to and the affordable
advertising options are excellent for advertisers on any budget.
And of course, I love all the *Hugs* from Marsha!
